Senate Defends Role, Responds to “Rubber Stamp” Criticism

The Senate has responded to public criticism labelling the current National Assembly as a “rubber stamp” to the President Bola Tinubu-led Executive, stating that it only supports policies and actions that serve the best interest of Nigerians.

Speaking on behalf of the Senate, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, said the legislature does not shy away from its constitutional responsibilities. He explained that the term “rubber stamp” is often used unfairly, adding that the legislative arm remains committed to scrutinising and endorsing initiatives that promote national progress.

Adaramodu also noted that the National Assembly often becomes a soft target for criticism by Nigerians, but maintained that lawmakers are focused on delivering legislation that aligns with public welfare and national development.
