The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has called for greater regional cooperation and innovation to unlock the full value of Africa’s extensive natural gas reserves, cautioning that isolated national strategies will not be enough.
Speaking at the second edition of the Africa Gas Innovation Summit 2025 held in Abuja, Ekpo stressed the importance of harmonised policies, shared infrastructure, and cross-border partnerships in ensuring the continent’s gas ambitions realise their transformative potential.
He noted that Africa is at a pivotal stage in its energy journey and must adopt solutions that are fair, inclusive, and tailored to its unique contexts.
Highlighting Nigeria’s own efforts, the minister pointed to the “Decade of Gas” initiative as a key framework under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at harnessing the country’s vast gas resources for sustainable development and industrial growth.
