Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called on the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to join forces with relevant stakeholders to sanitise the journalism profession by eliminating quacks and curbing the spread of fake news.
In a message delivered through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of the Senate and the entire National Assembly under his leadership to support good governance, anchored on free speech and credible information dissemination.
He emphasised that journalism remains a noble profession that must be safeguarded from impostors and purveyors of misinformation, noting that such elements pose a serious threat to the integrity of public discourse.
Akpabio expressed readiness to work collaboratively with the NGE in ensuring that Nigerians receive accurate and verified news, while urging the Guild to lead the charge in restoring public trust in media through professionalism and ethical reporting.
