Danbokolo, Top Bandit Commander and Ally of Turji, Killed in Zamfara Gunfight

Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo, a notorious bandit and key ally of the infamous Kachalla Bello Turji, has been killed alongside six other bandit commanders in Zamfara State. The deadly clash occurred in a village in Shinkafi Local Government Area during a two-hour gun battle with operatives of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards (CPG) on Sunday.

According to sources, the fierce encounter also left 182 foot soldiers of the bandits dead. The CPG operatives reportedly ambushed Danbokolo’s gang as they made their way toward a forest hideout. He was first shot in the leg while trying to flee the ambush, but operatives gave chase until they caught up with him.

“We are happy that this ruthless bandit is gone. He showed no mercy to villagers and abducted numerous people,” one source said.

Another insider recounted that Danbokolo, after being seriously wounded, was carried by his men across several communities in search of medical help. However, he was rejected by all and eventually died due to excessive bleeding. He was later found and reportedly beheaded and dismembered by the CPG operatives.

Danbokolo had been a critical figure in the operations of the Turji gang, which has been responsible for a series of violent attacks and kidnappings across the region.

Reports also suggest that the killing has shaken Turji himself, who is now said to be contemplating fleeing to the Niger Republic or even Chad, as sustained military operations and the recent suspension of GSM services have crippled communication among the bandit networks.

“The GSM shutdown is frustrating their coordination. If they had access to mobile networks, reinforcements would have arrived quickly,” one official disclosed.

The Nigerian military continues its coordinated offensives against armed groups in Zamfara and neighbouring states as part of a broader effort to eliminate banditry and restore peace in the region.
