Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to the delivery of the Ibom Deep Seaport project, a key infrastructure initiative aimed at boosting the state’s economy and transforming the region.
The governor made this known during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Akwa Ibom State Government and the project consortium, held at Government House, Uyo.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, Governor Eno emphasised the strategic importance of the project and urged the consortium to work closely with the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), the government’s designated representative, to ensure timely and successful execution.
Describing the seaport as a necessity for the people of Akwa Ibom State, the governor assured that his administration is fully committed to putting all required measures in place to keep the project on course.
He commended the consortium for its interest in the project and also praised former Minister of Petroleum, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for his role in the team and his efforts towards the realisation of the seaport.
In his remarks, Etiebet applauded Governor Eno for his visionary and impactful leadership, noting that it has significantly transformed the state. He described the MoU as a major milestone in the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport, a project first conceived in 2007.
Also speaking, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the consortium, Engineer Ezinwa Ibekwe, expressed appreciation to the state government for the confidence reposed in the company and assured of the consortium’s readiness to deliver on its mandate. He pledged a collaborative approach with all stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of the project.
