Dele Momodu to Defect to ADC in Benin City Today

Benin City — Former presidential candidate and media entrepreneur, Dele Momodu, is set to formally defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) today, Thursday, January 15, 2026, in what marks his latest move within Nigeria’s evolving opposition political landscape.

Momodu, a close political ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is among prominent opposition figures advocating for a broad-based coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defection ceremony is scheduled to take place in Benin City, the Edo State capital, at the new ADC State Secretariat. The event is expected to attract top party officials as well as key political leaders from across the country.

Speaking ahead of the event, Momodu said his decision to join the ADC aligns with ongoing efforts by opposition stakeholders to build a strong and united front capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated re-election bid in 2027.

The move is widely seen as part of intensifying realignments within the opposition as political actors position themselves ahead of the next electoral cycle.
