Fulham booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norwich City at Craven Cottage. Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Alex Iwobi were enough to see Marco Silva’s side progress, despite a late consolation from Borja Sainz for the visitors.
The home side started brightly and took a deserved lead in the 12th minute when Vinicius tapped in at the back post after good work down the left from Willian. Fulham continued to create chances with Harry Wilson and Tom Cairney both going close, but Norwich grew into the game and should have equalised when Tony Springett dragged wide.
The second half was an open affair with both sides having opportunities. Sam McCallum and Kellen Fisher went close for Norwich, while Wilson saw a volley cleared off the line. But Iwobi finally extended Fulham’s lead in the 72nd minute with a composed finish to open his account for the club.
Sainz set up a nervy finish when he bundled in after good work from Adam Idah, but Fulham held on during five minutes of added time to seal their place in round four. Silva will be delighted with his side’s character after responding to the weekend’s draw with Crystal Palace.
