The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has justified its move to relocate its headquarters from Abuja to Lagos, citing cost savings as a primary motive.
As gathered by Quest Times, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo’s directive prompted FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, to assess the implications in a memo dated January 15, 2024.
The internal memo, titled “Relocation of FAAN Headquarters From Abuja to Lagos,” requested the Director of Human Resources and Administration to outline the impact of the move.
With a staff strength of 5,308 as of December 2015, FAAN aims to streamline operations and cut expenses.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, Obiageli Orah, emphasized the decision’s wisdom, highlighting the impracticality of maintaining headquarters in Abuja without suitable office space.
Moreso, employees previously moved to Abuja have returned to Lagos, saving the authority from unnecessary expenses.
Minister Keyamo’s plan involves engaging concessionaires to construct offices in both Lagos and Abuja, ensuring FAAN’s efficient operation.
Until these plans materialize, FAAN will manage its existing building in Lagos, while Orah has assured that operational offices in Abuja will continue to function without disruption, emphasizing the technical nature of the decision.
