Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has issued a marching order for the commencement of perimeter fencing and remodeling of Government Primary School, Afaha Atai in Eket Local Government Area.
Governor Eno gave the order while speaking at the funeral service in honor of the Late Deaconess Comfort Akpaette, Woman Leader of All Nations Christian Ministry International, held at the school premises.
Recalling his previous directives for the construction of a perimeter fence and security post at the school, during a previous funeral ceremony at the same venue in 2023, the Governor, who was accompanied by the State’s First Lady, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, frowned at the delay and announced that the project will be handled by his office, through the project monitoring committee which he instructed to ensure its delivery in two months.
“When I drove into this school today, I remember that I was here when the late Elder Samuel Bassey was buried and I said that this school should be fenced to protect the children. But I felt so embarrassed driving into this school and work is yet to commence.
“Please in God’s name, in the next two months, the school should be fenced. Some roofs are giving up here. We’ll fix those things and get this school back in shape. By May, it should be done.
In his condolence message, the Governor said it was difficult for him to come to terms with the demise of Deaconess Comfort Akpaette.
He commended members of the Akpaette family for floating a foundation – Heart of Comfort Foundation – to keep her memory alive, and urged them to be consoled by her good legacies.
In a message of appreciation on behalf of the family, Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Media, Elder Iniobong Akpan, thanked the Governor and his wife for making time to join them in honoring their mother and also thanked government officials, the church community, the Nigeria Union of Teacher, and all that turned up for the funeral.
In a homily at the funeral on the topic, “Life is Borrowed,” culled from 2Kings 6:3-7, the Presiding Pastor of All Nations Christian Ministry Int’l, Pastor Ndaeyo Udomfuk, said it is important for every man to acknowledge that God is the owner of life, reserves control over it and determines when to recall it.
He urged Christians to hold their life in trust for God and to always seek to please Him as the owner to whom they will account whenever they are recalled.
