EFCC grills former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel over alleged N700 billion fraud

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday grilled a former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, over alleged ₦700 billion fraud.

Emmanuel was questioned after honouring an invitation from the EFCC to respond to allegations of money laundering and diversion of funds levelled against him by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking.

The petitioner alleged that Emmanuel received ₦3 trillion from the federation account over eight years but left a debt profile of ₦500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth ₦300 billion. He was also alleged to be unable to account for ₦700 billion.

Emmanuel served as Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 2015 to 2023 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
