The Federal Government plans to increase the number of functional primary healthcare centres across Nigeria from approximately 1,800 in 2023 to 17,000 by 2027.
Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Pate, revealed this during the Nigeria Medical Association’s 5th Annual Delegates Meeting and General Conference held at the Katsina State Secretariat. Represented by Dr Suleiman Bello, Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Pate said the move goes beyond numbers, aiming to provide transformative infrastructure for training, service delivery, and community resilience.
He also commended the conference theme — “Universal Applicability of Care Standards for Patients and the Wellbeing of Healthcare Providers” — and the sub-theme addressing the role of medical professionals in shaping public policy as timely and significant in Nigeria’s evolving healthcare landscape.
