Family of Late Ini-Ubong Umoren Debunks Claims Linking Senate President Akpabio to Organ Harvesting

The family of late Ini-Ubong Umoren – a young lady who tragically lost her life in 2021 during a job interview at Nung Ikono Obio, in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has debunked claims that the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio was reportedly involved in organ harvesting of their late daughter, Ini-Ubong.

The family made this known during a press conference held in Uyo, following a recent claim circulating online which alleged the Senate President’s involvement in organ harvesting.

Speaking with journalists, Ifiok Umoren, sister to the deceased Ini-ubong Umoren, alleged that suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan made a statement during a telephone conversation with a social media influencer, Sandra Duru, popularly known as Prof. Mgbeke, implicating Senator Akpabio in her sister’s death and the alleged harvesting of her organs. Ifiok clarified that her late sister was successfully buried without any missing organs on May 18th, 2022, adding that the Senate President had no involvement in her death. She also appealed to the State Government to expedite the execution of the convict, Uduak-Abasi Frank Akpan, who pleaded guilty to the charges laid against him and was sentenced to death by the court, by signing into law his execution.

Also, the Director of Public Prosecutions, Akwa Ibom State, Friday Itim, Esq, noted that during the judicial proceedings, the convict did not at any point mention the involvement of any person or people in the rape and murder of late Ini-Ubong Umoren.

According to him, the facts of the case which was made public are as contained in the evidence of the prosecution witnesses and the confession statements of the 1st Defendant, Uduak-Abasi Frank Akpan, made at the Anti-kidnapping Department of State Police Headquarters, Homicide Section, and the Department of State Services (DSS), which was admitted as exhibits 6, 12 and 18 respectively.

Meanwhile, the State Coordinator Legal and Counsel, Adua Samson, confirmed that the convict was not involved in organ harvesting but rape and murder, discrediting the claim that the Senate President was linked to the murder. The defence counsel, who noted that all vital organs of late Ini-Ubong Umoren were intact during and after autopsy, added that the allegations laid against Senator Akpabio, are false, baseless and lack any substantiated evidence.

Recall that, late Ini-Ubong Umoren lost her life on April 29, 2021, during a job interview in Nung Ikono Obio, Uruan Local Government Area.
