FG Orders Urgent Vulnerability Assessment of Prisons Ahead of Sallah, Rainy Season

With Sallah celebrations approaching and the rainy season intensifying, the Federal Government has directed an immediate vulnerability assessment of all custodial centres nationwide to forestall potential security breaches.

The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi, issued the directive during an emergency virtual meeting with all Zonal Coordinators, Commandants of Training Colleges and Schools, as well as State Command Controllers.

In a statement issued by the Service’s spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, the meeting was convened to outline security protocols ahead of the festivities and to initiate proactive measures in anticipation of increased risks associated with heavy rainfall.

Addressing senior officers, the Controller General stressed the urgency of the situation and issued a stern warning: custodial facilities must be secured without fail, or officers would face serious consequences.

The Nigerian Correctional Service is now expected to conduct rapid assessments of all facilities and implement immediate remedial actions to ensure the safety and security of inmates and infrastructure across the country.
