The Benue State Government has declared today, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, a public holiday in honour of President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to the state.
The President is expected to embark on a one-day condolence visit following recent violent attacks in the state, which have claimed numerous lives. In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Serumun Aber, the government said the visit is aimed at commiserating with the people of Benue and assessing the situation first-hand.
President Tinubu had earlier announced that he would adjust his schedule to prioritise the visit to Benue in light of the devastating events.
The government explained that the public holiday would allow citizens to welcome the President warmly, but noted that workers in essential services—including medical personnel, security agencies, and banks—are exempt from the holiday.
