The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the notice submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its forthcoming 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing a breach of procedural guidelines.
In a letter signed by the Acting Secretary to the Commission, Hajiya Aminu, INEC pointed to a violation of Part 2(12)3 of the relevant regulations, which mandates that such notices must be jointly signed by both the National Chairman and the National Secretary of the party.
Although the PDP’s notification was submitted within the legally required 21-day timeframe, INEC noted that it only bore the signature of the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, without the co-signature of the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
INEC stressed that the failure to comply with this requirement renders the notice invalid, effectively halting plans for the scheduled NEC meeting until the procedural error is rectified.
