CAF Unveils Redesigned WAFCON Trophy

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a new trophy for the 2024 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco.

The unveiling ceremony was held on Wednesday night in Casablanca at an event hosted by CAF and its long-term partner, TotalEnergies.

In a statement, CAF described the new trophy as a powerful symbol of the growth and recognition of women’s football across Africa. “This is more than just a piece of silverware,” the statement read. “It is a celebration of equality, unity, and excellence.”

The design draws direct inspiration from the iconic Men’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy and reflects CAF’s commitment to elevating women’s football on the continent.

The trophy features identical petals spiralling upward—each representing a participating national team—forming the shape of a blooming flower, which symbolises growth, empowerment, and beauty. At the heart of the floral structure is a golden sphere subtly patterned as a football, completing the elegant design.

CAF noted that the launch of the new trophy is part of a broader vision to make African women’s football among the best in the world.
