Alexia Putellas delivered a masterclass, scoring twice and providing two assists to lead Spain to a dominant win over Belgium at the Stockhorn Arena, solidifying their status as Euro 2025 favourites.
Although slower to start than in their opener against Portugal, La Roja found their rhythm by the 22nd minute when Putellas rifled home the opener. Belgium struck back almost immediately through Justine Vanhaevermaet, who powered in a header from a Tessa Wullaert corner.
Spain regained control before half-time as returning captain Irene Paredes nodded in their second goal. A lively second half saw Belgium level again via Hannah Eurlings, whose goal was upheld by VAR. But Putellas quickly restored Spain’s lead and added another to seal the win, while a late Wullaert strike was ruled offside.
With two defeats, Belgium now face elimination if Italy secure a win in their next match in Geneva.
