The Presidency has credited President Bola Tinubu with playing a pivotal role in the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer in the 2015 presidential election.
In a statement released by presidential aides, the Presidency said Buhari’s victory in the APC primary would have been unlikely without the political structure, influence, and strategic backing of Tinubu. According to them, Tinubu’s alliance with Buhari was a game-changer in consolidating the party and securing its eventual victory at the polls.
The comment comes amidst renewed conversations over Tinubu’s legacy and the internal dynamics within the APC leading up to the 2023 general elections.
The Presidency also used the opportunity to dismiss attempts to downplay Tinubu’s contributions to the party’s early success, calling for unity and recognition of historical political alliances that shaped the current administration.
