The Federal Government has announced plans to fully implement the use of privately-owned and public institution-based Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres for the conduct of the school-based Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) by the year 2026.
Minister of Education, Doctor Tunji Alausa, disclosed this after inspecting a pilot CBT SSCE conducted by the National Examinations Council (NECO) in Abuja.
Alausa commended NECO for its readiness to transition to a digital examination format, describing the pilot as a clear demonstration of the council’s capacity and commitment to education reform. He further revealed that there would be a phased rollout of the CBT format across all school examinations, beginning with objective questions in 2025.
Responding to questions from journalists, NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, reaffirmed the council’s preparedness for the nationwide adoption of CBT-based examinations.
