FG Sets 2026 Deadline for Full Transition to CBT in SSCE

The Federal Government has announced plans to fully adopt Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for the conduct of school-based Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) by the year 2026.

Minister of Education, Doctor Tunji Alausa, made the disclosure in Abuja after monitoring a pilot CBT SSCE organised by the National Examinations Council (NECO).

Alausa praised NECO’s preparedness, describing the pilot as a clear demonstration of capacity and commitment to reform Nigeria’s examination system. He added that the CBT rollout would be phased, starting with objective questions this year, ahead of full implementation.

Responding to questions from journalists, NECO Registrar, Professor Ibrahim Wushishi, reaffirmed the council’s readiness to embrace the new digital testing model, assuring that the necessary infrastructure and personnel are being put in place.
