Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on Sunday night reinforced their legacy in African basketball with a commanding performance that earned them a fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title and seventh overall.

The milestone victory, sealed at the Palais des Sports in Treichville, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, was met with swift praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described the achievement as a moment of national pride.

Posting on his verified X handle, @officialABAT, the President applauded the players and coaching staff for their “superb performance” and reaffirmed his firm support for the championship-winning team.

This latest triumph further establishes D’Tigress as a dominant force in African women’s basketball, maintaining an unbroken winning streak that began in 2017.

Led by Coach Rena Wakama, the team showcased discipline, resilience, and tactical brilliance throughout the tournament.

With this win, Nigeria sets a new benchmark, becoming the first team to secure five consecutive AfroBasket Women titles—highlighting the growing strength of the country’s women’s basketball programme.
