FG Launches Revised National Employment Policy to Tackle Poverty, Boost Jobs

The Federal Government has unveiled the 2005 Revised National Employment Policy (NEP) as part of efforts to combat poverty and address Nigeria’s persistent employment challenges.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, launched the updated policy and described it as a bold, inclusive, and forward-looking framework designed to deliver sustainable employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Speaking at the launch event, Dingyadi said the revised NEP is expected to foster a labour market that promotes inclusive growth, equity, productivity, and sustainability. He noted that the update became necessary due to the changing employment landscape in the country, marked by high youth unemployment, widespread underemployment, informality, gender inequality, and regional disparities.

The minister emphasised that, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the policy recognises employment not only as a key economic goal but also as a critical tool for promoting social justice, national security, and sustainable development.

He expressed optimism that the implementation of the revised NEP will provide practical solutions to Nigeria’s employment crisis and create a more resilient and productive workforce.
