The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the government’s failure to constitute the governing board of the National Pension Commission (PenCom).
The warning follows a meeting of the union’s Central Working Committee, which convened to deliberate on pressing issues affecting Nigerians, particularly workers and trade union members.
In a communiqué signed by NLC President Joe Ajaero, the union demanded that PenCom submit a full status report of workers’ pension funds within the seven-day period. Failure to comply, the union cautioned, could trigger a nationwide industrial action.
The communiqué also accused the Federal Government of allegedly diverting workers’ funds through the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), further heightening concerns about the management of retirement savings.
