Over 3 Million Nigerians Displaced by Flooding and Insecurity — FG

The Federal Government has revealed that more than three million Nigerians remain internally displaced due to flooding, insecurity, and other natural disasters, a situation that has deepened the humanitarian crisis across the country.

Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Tanko Sununu, who raised the concern, warned that millions risk sliding further into hunger and malnutrition if urgent measures are not taken to address the recurrent flooding that has devastated farmlands nationwide.

Speaking during the inauguration of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Flood Management and Response, Sununu noted that the combined effects of natural disasters, insecurity, and shrinking donor support have created a critical humanitarian challenge for Nigeria.

He commended the National Assembly for establishing a dedicated committee to oversee humanitarian interventions, expressing optimism that the initiative would enhance transparency and improve aid delivery to affected communities.
