UEFA Champions League – Group Stage
Manchester, UK – Manchester City were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against a determined AS Monaco side in a thrilling UEFA Champions League group stage encounter at the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland continued his prolific form, opening the scoring in the 15th minute with a clever lob over the Monaco goalkeeper. However, the visitors responded swiftly, with Jordan Teze firing home a spectacular strike from outside the box to level the match.
Haaland struck again just before halftime, heading in a well-placed cross to give City a 2-1 lead heading into the break.
Despite City’s dominance in possession, Monaco remained dangerous on the counter and were rewarded for their persistence in the dying moments. VAR intervened in the 90th minute, awarding Monaco a penalty after Nico Gonzalez was ruled to have fouled Eric Dier in the box.
Dier calmly converted the spot-kick to secure a hard-fought point for the French side, denying City all three points in what could prove to be a pivotal result in the group.
