President Tinubu Mourns Victims of Kogi Boat Accident, Urges Stricter Water Transport Safety

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic boat accident that claimed several lives in Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident, which occurred on the River Niger, involved traders who were traveling as part of their daily business activities. The Kogi State Government earlier confirmed the accident and expressed grief over the loss of lives.

In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the incident as both “shocking and unfortunate.” He offered heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kogi State, especially the families of the victims.

“These were hardworking Nigerians on a legitimate quest to earn a decent living,” the President said, lamenting the tragedy.

President Tinubu also commended the efforts of first responders at the scene and called on federal, state, and local emergency agencies to intensify support for survivors and victims’ families.

He further appealed to water transport operators to prioritize safety standards over financial gain, emphasizing that such tragedies are preventable with proper precautions and adherence to safety regulations.
