Washington, D.C. – As the U.S. government shutdown drags on, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt has warned that federal workers will begin losing their jobs within the next two days, raising fresh concerns about the growing economic and administrative impact of the funding impasse.
Addressing journalists, Vice President JD Vance admitted uncertainty over how long the shutdown would last, placing blame squarely on congressional Democrats for the failure to reach a funding agreement.
The shutdown has already forced thousands of government employees into unpaid leave, while some essential workers remain on duty without pay. The White House indicated that the situation could escalate quickly if a resolution is not reached.
The crisis follows a warning by President Donald Trump, who earlier described the looming layoffs as “irreversible,” and said that unless Congress acts swiftly, thousands of federal workers could be left without income or job security.
Negotiations in Congress remain deadlocked as lawmakers struggle to break the impasse, with both parties trading blame for the stalemate.
