Ahmedabad Recommended as Host City for 2030 Commonwealth Games

Ahmedabad, India – October 16, 2025

Ahmedabad has been recommended as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a significant milestone as the Games prepare to celebrate their centenary edition.

According to reports, Commonwealth Sport has selected the Indian city ahead of a rival bid from Abuja, Nigeria, following a detailed evaluation process. The decision highlights Ahmedabad’s growing status as a global sports destination and reinforces India’s commitment to hosting major international events.

The recommendation is expected to be formally ratified at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly scheduled to take place in Glasgow on November 26.

If confirmed, this would mark the second time India has hosted the Commonwealth Games, following the 2010 edition held in New Delhi.

The 2030 Games are particularly symbolic, celebrating 100 years since the first British Empire Games were held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930. Ahmedabad’s selection reflects both its infrastructure capabilities and India’s growing influence in global sport.
