Uyo, Nigeria – October 16, 2025
As part of efforts to position Akwa Ibom State as Nigeria’s leading tourism and investment hub, Governor Pastor Umo Eno has announced the development of a new landmark project—Arise City Shopping Center—within the Tropicana Complex in Uyo.
The shopping center, expected to host international retail brands, is being developed to attract shoppers and tourists from across Nigeria and beyond. According to Governor Eno, the initiative is aimed at expanding the state’s internally generated revenue and enhancing its reputation as a premier destination for business, leisure, and entertainment.
Speaking during a tour of the project site, Governor Eno said the shopping complex complements other key facilities within the Tropicana Complex, including an international convention center, a soon-to-be-completed 200-bed hotel, and other infrastructure designed to draw high-value visitors and investments.
“With all these facilities coming on stream, it is important that we create a shopping city that meets global standards,” the Governor said. “We want visitors to find everything they need here—world-class retail, hospitality, and entertainment—without having to leave the state.”
Governor Eno also used the opportunity to address young people, urging them to shun violence and social vices that could undermine the state’s peace and development goals. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to job creation, especially through tourism, hospitality, and infrastructure projects that will offer long-term opportunities for Akwa Ibom’s youth.
The Arise City Shopping Center forms part of Governor Eno’s broader strategy to leverage strategic infrastructure to drive economic diversification and position Akwa Ibom as a top-tier investment destination in West Africa.
