Jerusalem — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the military to launch intensified strikes on the Gaza Strip, accusing Hamas of violating the US-brokered ceasefire agreement.
Reports indicate that the Palestinian militant group has delayed handing over the remains of another hostage, citing what it described as Israel’s violations of the truce terms. The move has further heightened tensions and cast doubt over the fragile ceasefire deal.
Hamas had earlier announced plans to transfer the body of another hostage amid growing Israeli pressure, following its earlier return of only partial remains of a previously recovered captive.
On Monday, the group handed over what it said was the 16th of 28 hostage bodies agreed upon under the ceasefire arrangement, which came into effect on October 10.
The latest developments threaten to unravel the truce and reignite hostilities, as both sides trade blame over alleged breaches of the agreement.
