Hurricane Melissa Leaves at Least 20 Dead in Haiti, Causes Widespread Devastation in Jamaica

Port-au-Prince/Jamaica – At least 20 people have reportedly died in Haiti following severe flooding caused by Hurricane Melissa, which has also left parts of Jamaica reeling from its impact.

The hurricane made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, with residents stranded on rooftops and large areas left without electricity.

Speaking to journalists, Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie warned that recovery for Jamaicans will be challenging. “It will not be an easy road,” he said, as authorities continue to assess the damage and provide emergency assistance.

Meteorologists have cautioned that heavy rainfall and strong winds could persist in affected areas, urging residents to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories.
