Yenagoa — Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-powered APC delegation to Yenagoa on Monday for the governor’s formal reception into the party.
Among the dignitaries present were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Diri’s defection marks a significant political realignment in the South-South region and comes amid a broader wave of defections by prominent PDP figures to the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development is expected to reshape the political landscape in Bayelsa, a state long regarded as a PDP stronghold.
