Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched the “Flow with Confidence” initiative, a national programme aimed at improving menstrual health and hygiene for school-aged girls across the country. As part of the initiative, 350,000 schoolgirls will receive free sanitary pads for one year.
Speaking at the national launch and distribution ceremony held across the 36 states and the FCT, Mrs. Tinubu described menstrual health as a critical issue affecting the wellbeing, dignity, confidence, and educational opportunities of millions of girls in Nigeria.
The First Lady, who was represented by the First Lady of Niger State, Fatima Bago, noted that the initiative seeks to empower 370,000 girls, particularly those in rural communities who often struggle to access or afford menstrual hygiene products.
She disclosed that ₦2.5 billion was invested in procuring the customised sanitary pads from a local manufacturing company—an effort she said not only supports menstrual health but also promotes local industry and job creation.
The “Flow with Confidence” initiative forms part of the First Lady’s broader commitment to improving the welfare and educational outcomes of Nigerian girls.
