Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Convenes Stakeholders’ Meeting, Debunks Reports of Terrorist Infiltration

The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mohammed Baba Azare, has convened a broad stakeholders’ security meeting in Uyo amid rising concerns over insecurity in parts of the country.

Addressing representatives of traditional institutions, religious bodies, market and transport unions, youth and student groups, hoteliers, labour unions, community leaders and members of the media, Azare said the meeting was aimed at reviewing the state’s security landscape and strengthening collaboration to maintain peace across all communities.

The Police Commissioner dismissed social media reports claiming insurgents and Boko Haram terrorists had infiltrated Akwa Ibom, describing the allegations as false and capable of causing public panic.

“Akwa Ibom remains peaceful and secure,” he said, noting that the Command, in partnership with other security agencies, continues to sustain robust patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations throughout the state.

Azare expressed worry over the growing spread of fake news and unverified security alerts online, warning that such misinformation could undermine public confidence. He urged residents to take ownership of community security by exposing criminal elements involved in armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.

“No community can be truly safe if some residents shield criminals,” he cautioned, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth associations, market groups and civil society organizations to maintain close cooperation with security agencies to preserve the state’s stable environment.

Stakeholders at the meeting commended the Commissioner and the Command for their sustained efforts in safeguarding the state. They made key observations and pledged to deepen collaboration with the Police, enhance information sharing and support ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and security across Akwa Ibom.
