The Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, has confirmed that power supply has been restored nationwide following a system disturbance on the National Grid that led to a partial collapse on Tuesday.
According to NISO, the incident occurred at exactly 2:01 pm, disrupting electricity supply across several parts of the country.
Reports indicate that power generation, which had peaked at about 4,800 megawatts, dropped sharply to 139 megawatts following the disturbance.
In a statement signed by its management, the system operator explained that the incident triggered the tripping of multiple power generation units and critical 330-kilovolt transmission lines, further compounding the already fragile state of the national grid.
NISO said restoration efforts were immediately initiated, leading to the gradual recovery of generation and transmission, and the eventual restoration of power supply across the country.
