Governor Umo Eno Calls for Gratitude, Peace, and Development in 2026 New Year Address

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has urged residents to begin the new year with gratitude to God, sustained peace, and a collective commitment to the state’s development.

Delivering his 2026 New Year broadcast, Governor Eno thanked God for the peace, progress, and stability recorded in the past year, while expressing appreciation to Akwa Ibom people for their prayers, support, and cooperation. He also commended the State House of Assembly for the timely passage of the 2026 People’s Budget of Consolidation and Expansion, highlighting collaboration among government arms as vital to development.

Governor Eno extended New Year greetings to President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, past leaders, and acknowledged the youth for their recent rally and political support. He announced that the state’s Special New Year Thanksgiving and Covenant Service would hold on Sunday, January 4, 2026, under the theme “The God of All Flesh” (Jeremiah 32:27), emphasising God’s sovereignty and faithfulness even in challenging times.

Highlighting key policy initiatives for the year, Governor Eno announced:

  • Full implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) for all government revenues, warning MDAs to comply or face consequences.
  • Strengthened commitments to agriculture, including the launch of a Tree Crop Revolution and intensified rural development projects.
  • Completion of ongoing infrastructure projects and expansion of road networks across all 31 local government areas.

He also disclosed progress in education, healthcare, security, and social welfare, including the commissioning of Ukanafun General Hospital, construction of model schools and health centres, ongoing work on the Ibom International Hospital, and continued payment of gratuity arrears. Major tourism and aviation initiatives were highlighted, with plans to commence international flights at Victor Attah International Airport by April 2026 and continued progress on the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

Governor Eno urged citizens to embrace peaceful politics as the election season approaches and called for unity, faith, and collective responsibility, stressing that peace remains the foundation of Akwa Ibom’s development. He concluded by wishing residents a Happy New Year and prayed for continued progress and prosperity for both the state and the nation.
