Datti Baba-Ahmed Declares Interest in 2027 Presidency, Reaffirms Loyalty to Labour Party

The Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, while reaffirming his commitment to the Labour Party amid ongoing political realignments.

Baba-Ahmed, who was the running mate to former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, made the declaration at a rally held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

The 56-year-old politician’s announcement comes barely a week after Peter Obi announced his exit from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). However, speaking during a press briefing at the Labour Party’s national secretariat, Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he would not follow Obi to the ADC.

He stressed that while he has made his presidential ambition known, he remains committed to the Labour Party and will strictly adhere to the party’s guidelines and electoral processes as he pursues his aspiration.

Baba-Ahmed’s declaration signals the beginning of internal political positioning within the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
