The Executive Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area, Elder Ntiedo Usoro, has presented a ₦15.6 billion budget proposal for the 2026 financial year to the Essien Udim Legislative Council for consideration and passage.
The budget presentation, which took place at the Nsini Umossoh Legislative Chambers, Afaha Ikot Ebak, is christened the “Budget of Unity and Transformation.” Of the total estimate, ₦6.318 billion is earmarked for recurrent expenditure, while ₦9.228 billion is allocated for capital expenditure.
Presenting the budget, Elder Usoro said the 2026 capital expenditure would focus largely on human capital development and critical infrastructure. Key projects include the renovation and reconstruction of the Essien Udim Unity Hall, renovation and equipping of the Legislative Chambers and offices to provide a conducive working environment for councillors, as well as the renovation and reconstruction of Police Staff Quarters.
Other priority projects outlined include the purchase of a functional police patrol vehicle for the Essien Udim Police Division, reconstruction of 400 open market stalls at Urua Ebom, Odoro Ikot II, and the construction of a staff canteen and parking carriage for principal officers of the council, among others.
The council chairman noted that the 2026 Budget of Unity and Transformation is timely and underscores his administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges facing the people of Essien Udim, particularly over the past twelve months. He added that the budget was carefully structured to align with the area’s economic strength and comparative advantages, expressing optimism that faithful implementation would reposition Essien Udim on a path of sustainable development and progress.
Receiving the budget, the Leader of the 8th Essien Udim Legislative Council, George Jumbo, commended the chairman for the cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government in the local government area. He assured the chairman of the legislature’s cooperation and pledged accelerated consideration of the budget to facilitate its timely passage in the interest of the people.
The budget presentation ceremony was attended by the Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency, Prince Ukpong Akpabio (KSJI), the Vice Chairman, Secretary, directors, supervisors, former local government chairmen, critical stakeholders, aides of the governor from Essien Udim, and heads of security agencies in the local government area.
