The Federal Government and Kaduna State have reaffirmed their joint commitment to drastically reduce maternal and neonatal mortality, particularly in seven high-risk local government areas of the state.
Speaking after a four-day workshop in Kaduna, the National Coordinator of the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju, announced the presentation of a co-created intervention report to the Kaduna State Government.
The initiative, he said, is part of a broader federal strategy targeting 172 local government areas nationwide. He noted that seven local government areas in Kaduna alone are among the worst-hit nationwide.
Adeyanju emphasised that the collaborative workshop included field visits to investigate the drivers of maternal deaths.
He added that proper stakeholder alignment and the inauguration of a state-level task force are key components of the roadmap now handed to the government.
