FIRS Orders Banks to Shut Down Unauthorised Tax Collection Accounts

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has directed all banks in Nigeria to identify and shut down any tax and levy collection accounts not integrated with its official TaxPro Max system.

This directive, disclosed in a notice signed by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji and released through his media adviser, Dare Adekanmbi, forms part of the agency’s broader efforts to improve tax collection efficiency, promote transparency, and ensure uniformity nationwide.

According to the notice, all tax collections must now be processed strictly through assessments generated on the TaxPro Max platform.

All banks participating in the FIRS Collection, Remittance, and Reconciliation Scheme are expected to comply immediately.

TaxPro Max, a Nigerian-developed digital platform, streamlines key tax functions such as taxpayer registration, return filing, payment processing, and tax clearance certificate issuance.
