Senate President Godswill Akpabio has debunked reports circulating on social media suggesting that the National Assembly has approved the creation of new states.
Speaking during plenary in response to a matter raised by Senator Abdul Ningi, Akpabio clarified that while the Constitution Review Committee has received more than 42 proposals for state creation, none has gone through the full legislative process required for approval.
He warned against communities holding meetings or mobilising support based on unfounded assumptions, emphasising that no new state has been legally established.
Akpabio urged Nigerians to rely solely on official communications from the National Assembly on matters relating to constitutional amendments and state creation.
