FG Moves to Upgrade Uyo’s Victor Attah Airport to International Status

The Federal Government has begun the process of upgrading Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to full international status, a move that will enable it to receive and process international passengers.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, announced the development in Abuja during a meeting with Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno.

Keyamo noted that the facility already meets key global aviation standards, highlighting its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) centre and a runway spanning more than three kilometres—long enough to accommodate larger aircraft typically used for international operations.

Governor Eno, while commending the Federal Government for the approval, affirmed that the airport is well-positioned for international service. He disclosed that the state government plans to build a cargo terminal as well as residential quarters for airport staff to support the anticipated expansion.

The upgrade is expected to boost economic activity, improve connectivity, and position Akwa Ibom as a growing aviation hub in the Gulf of Guinea region.
