The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has accepted the judgment of the Supreme Court which affirmed the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Obi broke his silence on the Supreme Court judgment at a news conference on Monday, November 6, 2023, in Abuja.
The Supreme Court on September 26, 2023, upheld the September 6 judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal affirming the declaration of Tinubu as duly elected president.
The seven-member panel, led by Justice John Inyang-Okoro, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, who came second in the election, and Obi who came third.
Obi speaking at the press conference said the Supreme Court judgment dashed the hopes of a majority of Nigerians by sacrificing justice for political expediency.
The LP standard bearer, however, said as democrats, he, the vice presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, have exhausted all legal means to challenge the 2023 general elections.
He also said with the legal battle over, the Labour Party was now in opposition, adding that his resolve for a new Nigeria was still intact.
Obi said: “In the coming months we will build the party, we will make it stronger. We will build those young people. We will come out stronger and more committed to a new Nigeria.
The future is dynamic. Our focus now is to ensure that we do the right thing for the benefit of Nigeria.”
