‘Nigeria Now Working Again’ — Shettima Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that Nigeria is now on the path of recovery and growth, insisting that the country is “working again” under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.

Shettima made the remarks on Thursday during the submission of Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 elections.

The forms were submitted at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, a venue reserved exclusively for the president, while other aspirants submitted theirs at a designated hotel.

The development came a day after the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress waived the screening requirements for Tinubu, automatically clearing him to contest in the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.

According to the APC leadership, the decision followed endorsements from the Progressive Governors Forum, National Assembly leadership, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025.

Speaking at the event, Shettima described Tinubu as a leader who had demonstrated resilience and capacity in the face of economic challenges.

“The President has delivered on the mandate of stability and national revival. The storms of the past years have not diminished him. They have made a party hero out of him,” Shettima said.

He noted that Nigeria’s foreign reserves stood at about 33.99 billion dollars when Tinubu assumed office, adding that the administration had taken difficult but necessary decisions to stabilise the economy and restore investor confidence.

“We have crossed the river. We are out of the dark tunnel. Nigeria is on a path to recovery and growth,” he added.

Shettima also called on Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, religion or ethnicity, to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
