US Lists 24 Nigerians For Deportation Over Fraud, Drug Offences

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge brought against the alleged fake Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), Adeniyi Adeyemi by the federal government.

The court put an end to the the trial following the request of the federal government.

The federal government said a fresh charge will be filed against him before High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for arraignment.

Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN and Director of the Public Prosecution of the Federation DPPF moved the application for the termination of the charges.

Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, AGF, carried out a review of the case file of Adeyemi and the charge filed by the Inspector General of Police and found some loopholes.

It added, “Under DHS leadership, the hardworking men and women of DHS and ICE are fulfilling President Trump’s promise and carrying out mass deportations – starting with the worst of the worst – including the illegal aliens you see here.”

In July, US authorities published a list of 124 Nigerians they said were to be deported over what they described as the “worst of all crimes”. Another 10 Nigerians were listed for deportation in August.

DHS said the publication was part of the US government’s wider immigration enforcement campaign, with ICE responsible for carrying out arrests across the country.

However, the announcement did not provide detailed information about the final immigration status or deportation proceedings of each individual. Their inclusion on the list does not, by itself, confirm that they have already been deported.
