President Bola Tinubu has indicated that he may not attend every All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally ahead of the 2027 general election, saying the demands of governance require his continued attention.
Tinubu made this known on Wednesday during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House in Abuja, where he urged campaign officials to take responsibility for mobilising support across states, local government areas and wards.
The President said he had accepted advice from party leaders that the demands of the campaign should not distract him from his responsibilities as head of state.
According to him, Nigeria requires his attention now more than ever, stressing that the responsibilities of the presidency do not stop because of electioneering.
Tinubu, however, said he would still make time to speak directly with Nigerians during the campaign, even if he does not accompany the campaign team to every engagement.
He also linked the decision to the government’s economic and financial responsibilities, noting that Nigeria has obligations that must be met and that the administration is seeking to attract investors willing to commit to the country’s long-term development.
“You will excuse me from going everywhere with you,” the President told members of the campaign council, according to reports.
Tinubu charged the campaign council to take the administration’s vision, record and policy agenda to Nigerians across the country as the APC prepares for the 2027 presidential election.
He also pledged continued commitment to the APC manifesto and said the campaign structure would play a central role in communicating the party’s message to voters.
The APC has begun preparations for the election, with the party expected to rely heavily on its campaign council and grassroots structures for mobilisation as the 2027 polls approach.
The President’s remarks indicate that while he will participate in the campaign, his administration intends to maintain a focus on governance and economic responsibilities throughout the election period.
