Akwa Ibom State Governor Moves to Boost Mechanized Farming

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has said his administration is taking practical steps to boost full-scale mechanized farming in order to enhance agricultural production in the state.

Governor Eno made this known while fielding questions from Government House correspondents shortly after inspecting the progress of work at the Agricultural Equipment Leasing Company located at Ekpri Nsukara.

During the inspection, the governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work at the project site, commending the contractor for the progress recorded so far. He noted that the facility, which is expected to be commissioned soon, will provide farmers with access to modern agricultural equipment needed for mechanized farming.

According to the governor, the establishment of the Agricultural Equipment Leasing Company is designed to encourage farmers to engage in large-scale farming for improved productivity, better earnings, and enhanced food sufficiency in the state.

Governor Eno explained that his administration remains focused on mechanizing farming methods to enable farmers achieve greater crop yields and increase profitability.

Speaking on the government’s tree-crop revolution programme, the governor assured that the initiative will commence as soon as the rainy season sets in, noting that such programmes thrive better during the rainy season.

He therefore urged farmers across the state to take advantage of the various agricultural programmes introduced by the government, stressing that they are aimed at promoting meaningful large-scale farming output and overall economic growth.

Government House Correspondent, Jane Uwa, reports that the initiative forms part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen agriculture and promote sustainable food production in Akwa Ibom State.
