Residents of Nnung Udoe Itak in Ikono Local Government Area have raised concerns over the deplorable condition of their access road, calling for urgent government intervention.
Speaking with our correspondent, Idongesit Eni, the residents said the major road linking the community to neighbouring areas has deteriorated significantly, making movement difficult, especially during the rainy season.
They noted that the poor state of the road has adversely affected business activities, as traders and commuters struggle to transport goods and services in and out of the area. The residents also expressed concern over the safety risks, stating that the road has become a hazard, with frequent accidents involving motorists and commercial drivers.
Also speaking, the Paramount Ruler of Ikono, Edidem Etim Nnanna, described the situation as neglect, stressing that the road is vital to the socio-economic development of the area. He appealed to the government to urgently rehabilitate the road to ease transportation challenges faced by the community.
Our correspondent reports that residents remain hopeful that the appropriate authorities will intervene promptly to restore normalcy and improve living conditions in the area.
