The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has urged the Federal Government to take urgent measures to mitigate the impact of the recent surge in petrol prices, including the introduction of a cost-of-living allowance, a wage increase for workers, tax relief, and immediate steps to revive the nation’s public refineries.
The labour body warned that the sharp rise in fuel costs has exacerbated economic hardships for Nigerian workers and citizens, cautioning that failure to act could spark severe social unrest.
The NLC criticized the government for leaving Nigerians vulnerable to volatile global oil prices, heightened by the escalating crisis in the Middle East. It said the situation has highlighted the fragility of Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, worsening the financial strain on workers and their families.
