Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The development was confirmed in a statement by the governor’s media aide, Nuhu Anka, who said the decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders across the state.
According to Anka, the governor’s move was guided by the need to strengthen efforts to address security challenges in the North-Western state. He noted that aligning with a political platform capable of fostering greater unity, stability, and stronger cooperation with the Federal Government would better serve the interests of the people.
Governor Lawal also expressed appreciation to members of the PDP for their support and cooperation during his time in the party.
He explained that prevailing political realities, as well as the unresolved internal crisis within the party, made it necessary for him to take what he described as a bold step in the interest of good governance and the future development of Zamfara State.
